With hundreds of thousands of downloads on BitTorrent just four days after its official release, Avatar is on its way to adding another title to its already impressive track record.

With more than 200,000 downloads in the first four days,interesting observation is that a relatively high percentage of downloads in the first few days came from the UK and Australia. One of the reasons for this could be that these countries had a later release date which means that the pirated Blu-ray was available to them before the retail version hit the local stores.

In 2007  Ice Age was the first Blu-ray film to appear on BitTorrent. But at that time, the number of people who owned a Blu-ray player was  very low, and the 22GB download was mostly seen as a curiosity.

Now,  forward three years and Blu-ray has become mainstream. Not only have sales skyrocketed, but also the number of unauthorized downloads on BitTorrent and other file-sharing networks.
