Good news for all our tech-phobic friends out there; the smartphone is getting smarter. Not smarter as in getting things done; Blackberries, Androids, iPhones and Palms have been our personal assistants for years. I mean smart in the sense of being user friendly, knowing what we want to do and not making us jump through hoops to do it. Helping us organize our lives without all the confusion. If you don’t believe me then you probably haven’t taken one of these for a ride. Here are the 3 best smartphones for the technically challenged.
3. HTC Evo 4G
Yeah, I know. Android has a reputation of being an operating system for geeks. But that’s not really true these days. It’s getting easier and more user-friendly with each new version. And with the Evo, you get HTC’s custom Sense user interface. It brings things like widgets for easily turning Wifi on and off with just a tap, and a rather streamlined way of doing things. Also for the tech-challenged – a gorgeous 4.3 inch screen, which makes using the virtual keyboard a snap, even if you have big hands. Don’t like the keyboard it comes with? No problem, just head over to the marketplace and download another. The Evo is extremely customizable, while being a great first-time smartphone.
2. Palm Pre
The Palm Pre is the new kid on the block, as it’s WebOs operating system came out less than two years ago. The Pre really gets bonus points for usability. It’s “cards” interface is super smooth and very intuitive. To open an app, just click on its icon. Minimize it by swiping your finger up across the screen, and swipe up again to close it. Doesn’t get easier than that, right? It even does multi-tasking, so loading a big webpage while checking your email and playing music isn’t a problem. If you just can’t get your head around tapping on a piece of glass to send a text, don’t worry. The Pre has a physical keyboard, which is a big plus for smartphone neophytes.
1. Apple Iphone 4
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years you’re familiar with the iPhone. And Apple’s latest version is an absolute joy to use. A single button sits atop an ultra-durable glass display. Pressing it takes you back to the home screen from anywhere you are, so don’t worry about getting lost in the software. There’s a dedicated settings app for controling all your applications from a single place. You’ve also got Apple’s gigantic selection of apps – there’s really something for any task. The latest iOS upgrade brings multi-tasking to the iPhone, and the new retina display is gorgeous. Couple all that with Apple’s killer customer support and you get the best smartphone out there, especially for the technically challenged. That’s why the Iphone 4 takes the top spot.
