According to The Times of India, the Maharashtra government has blocked access to popular social networking website Facebook in its headquarters the Mantralaya.
The IT department within the Mantralaya was asked to block access to the website following complaints that the employees there were hooked to the website during the work hours thereby affecting work. The move has largely been criticised by employees from the Mantralaya. The Times of India quoted a Mantralaya employee saying that they use Facebook only during lunch breaks or when they do not have any other important work.
However, senior officials at the Mantralaya clarified that the Internet connection at the office is supposed to be used for official purposes only.
