Lately, Apple has been experimenting with fingerprint technology and it’s many uses. There are already apps for iPhone that require a fingerprint (rather than a password) to unlock the phone, thereby providing optimal security. However, now, Apple has disclosed that, in combination with a mobileOne fingerprint pad, the iPhone can fight crime, too.
With this mobileOne device, an iPhone user may scan the fingerprints of those who have stolen their phone. The device is equipped with a FIPS 201/PIV fingerprint sensor, providing a full 256 bit grayscale, 508 dpi image in only 700 milliseconds. With the mobileOne technology and iPhone or iPod touch combined, a person can capture all 10 fingerprints and facial images in seconds.
It’s only logical that law enforcement would pick up on this crime-fighting technology. The FBI is currently testing different fingerprint technology and this iPhone fingerprint device is currently in the running. Starting the testing on the mobileOne and iPhone technology in 2012, the FBI announces that the technology will take a while to approve.
The FbF mobileOne device will cost around $600, a reasonable price for efficient and practical technology.
