RIM launches BlackBerry Curve 9220 in India with price tag Rs 10990

RIM has announced the launch of the BlackBerry Curve 9220, This latest BB Curve is now thinner, sleeker and sexier and comes with BlackBerry OS 7.1. Along this Blackberry 9220 is the first BlackBerry to come with FM Radio on board.

The entry level Smartphone is powered by 7.1 OS which offer powerful multimedia and communication function and long life battery.

The phone features a dedicated BBM key (left shortcut key on the side) and has 512MB RAM along with a 2MP camera. The phone weighs just 104 gms and has a 1450mAh battery which last about 18 days in Stand by mode and give 7 hours of conversation time on a single charge.
The BlackBerry 9220 has been priced at 10,990 (Available from April 19) and will now compete against Android Smartphone’s in this low price range. But this one doesn’t have 3G, GPS or Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities making it fall short of the competition in terms of connectivity features. RIM also stated that the 9220 is targeted at youth and SMEs and MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises). The handset will be available in a range of colors – Black, teal blue, fuschia pink and pure white.
As part of the launch the 9220 customers can downloads apps from BB App World worth 2500 for free (till June 30, 2012).

It’s Android or Apple for 71 percent of US smartphone users

Android is the leading smartphone operating system in the United States, while Apple is the leading smartphone manufacturer, Nielsen said Tuesday.

The research firm said 71 percent of U.S. smartphone consumers have either Android phones or iPhones, up from 67 percent in July, when Nielsen issued its previous report.
And while there are app stores from other phone makers, such as BlackBerry and Windows, 83 percent of those who have downloaded an app in the past 30 days had either an Android phone or an iPhone.
According to Nielsen’s latest data, for the third quarter, 44 percent of all U.S. mobile subscribers now have smartphones, and “among those who purchased a new mobile phone in the last three months, 56 percent chose smartphones.”
RIM, which makes BlackBerry, continued its decline in US share; Nielsen says RIM had 17.8 percent of the U.S. market, down from 20 percent in July.

Free aptitude test by BlackBerry  for Indian students:techplazzaBlackberry Smartphone maker Research In Motion(RIM) will provide free aptitude test application on its for students in India in partnership with content providers Ipomo and mobile operator Vodafone.

Aptitude Competition for Excellence(ACE) is the free application which provide by Black berry ACE help the student for their competitive exams preparation.

The application and content of ACE has been designed by Ipomo for BlackBerry users, Shah said, adding that initially the content for the test will be available for select examination and grades. It will be expanded and updated gradually.
The three partners are running Aptitude Competition for Excellence (ACE 2011) program in Karnataka and will start it in Pune from January.
Around 300 Students from over 40 engineering and management colleges competed against each other using BlackBerry smartphones to answer the test, Shah said.
“We are looking at the way a student can utilise his time for productive work on mobile phones. Hence, we have decided to give students Aptitude Competition for Excellence (ACE) applications free so that he can utilize his time to prepare for competitive exams,” Hitesh Shah, director – commercial relationship India, Research In Motion said.

Under the programme, the three partners will jointly provide scholarship worth Rs 1 lakh to the winner, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 to first runner-up and second runner-up.
